[DESIGN] Possible Improvements

Possible design solutions for next improvements.

- using actual photographs of cityscape/buildings?
- making all clear navigation/sequence, and what each thing does?
- using different approach in interface design, i.e) icons, and etc..
- other small things

[FINAL] Interactive Promotion/Campaign for Griffith Observatory

http://cc.usu.edu/~ryotaiizuka/id2/test_1210.swf

Interactive Promotional Campaign for the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, where people visit to learn astronomy or simply to watch night sky.

Design goal is to bring people to there so that they could learn more about astronomy or just to get inspiration by watching beautiful stars and planets in the space.

For the campaign, I would make a interactive installation projected on street walls or building walls in Los Angeles Area, and also in which people can play with.

design solution?

installation projects actual image of trillions stars that people will see through the actual telescope on the observatory. Entire building covered with those stars could be very surprising and inspirational, and enough to capture people's attention.

The idea that stars carry our wishes. For example, when you are kids, see shooting star, people say wishes.

[TO-DO] The considerations for Week 13th.

Reminder for me to improve my flash-presentation.

1) Make Stars moving in circle rather than in a diagonal.

2) Stars on top of the buildings showing a little information such as name? or text links so that people can still access and add the information of these stars at the top.

3) Use a secondary cell phone device to add the information and your wish to star, and also to make comments to other people's wishes.

4) after you get to the details, whole screen will be zoomed in and will shows the detailed image of the installation and also the detailed screen of a cell phone. So, you see all three different screens and understand what happening easily...

5) attach the information of the client, Griffith Observatory, maybe logo, visual image of the place, and etc...

6) distinguish between stars that are already occupied and stars that are not occupied...

7) And still need to consider things from last few weeks.

[TO-DO] Considerations for next week...

From the critique based on today, instead of world-wide installation projected in the different countries, I will focus on Los Angeles area only and project it on different buildings around the areas.

- Making an animation of the entire story. shows actual actions and movements of the people who interact with the installation. keep it simples.

- Refining the interface for the installation, and making the interface for secondary device which mainly for reviewing comments/message for your wish.

- Coming up with ideas how people will be able to add their wishes directly from the installation, instead of from iphone or internet.

- Rewrite a copy appearing on the first page – something related to the observatory. for example, this is the actual image from the Griffith Observatory tonight... or something...

- How audio can play in the installation in order to attract people and make a connection to the Griffith observatory.

- Secondary elements or graphics that plays with the installation in order to make people aware that this is a promotion for the Griffith Observatory???

[BLOGs] interactivity in architecture

Interactive Design + Environmental Design = Interactive Architecture

- What is interactive architecture?
- what can it do?

this is my current interesting topic and something that I want to explore somewhat in my life.

>>> blogs and websites that I found is interesting and gives some ideas of what interactive architecture might be, and hopefully i get ideas for this project.

[COMPS] interactive installation in cities

- make a wish installation

This instlation will be projected on either entire wall of a building, a long linear wall, or etc... It will be a touch panel screen so that people will be able to interact with the installation easily...

1) if you touch one of the stars on screen, someone's profile and his/her wish will appear.

2) if you click his/her wish, the text will appear on entire wall of the building.

3) if you click his/her video, the video will appear on entire wall of the building and start playing.

*** this can be sorted by country / job / etc.. for more information.

[DESIGN] design in flash

this is a rough design idea in flash. this will be displayed in city as interactive installation – such as building, wall, and etc...

Moving-Stars are created in flash, but they are supposed to be a actual image from a telescope on one of the observatories in the world.

On first page, it shows the local time in the location, and the space address for stars you see on the screen.

[LINK] Helpful link for download movie

here is a helpful link that I found.
The website allows you to download a movie from Youtube,
and convert the file into any types of file you want.
you don't need to download any kind of program.
you can download the converted file from the same website.

[STORYBOARD] Rough Idea of interactivity between different medias

I want to make an interactivity between a city landscape (could be world-wide), a telescope, a planetarium, and also a recent mobile device such as i-phone for this interactive promotion/campaign for Griffith observatory and the other organization.

Right now, I am thinking, a image of stars and planets seen from a actual telescope will be a core/center idea or concept that will inter-play between these media and will bring people to observatories. I am also thinking that during the interactivity, making a wish/hope/dream might be an interesting secondary idea or concept that audience can play with.

[RESEARCH] EXAMPLES OF MEDIA / COMMUNICATION

Here are examples that show possibilities of how existing conditions, such as city landscape, studio, and etc... can be used for interactive play grounds.

[CONCLUSION] IDEA BEHIND NEW INTERFACE

my new CNN interface allows user to

- Quickly identify what news or subjects are popular,
and important for you to know at the time.

- Actively participate and make everyday news
more useful for them to learn about the subjects or news
through sharing their resources.

- for companies or individuals who want to sell their
products and services, they effectively can approach to
specific audiences who might be interested in their products
by posing ads/resources to specific news or subject matters.

- Through mobile devices, to access to
the CNN news and CNN news-wikipedia anytime.

THE END

[DESIGN] MIDTERM REVIEW FOR CNN NEWS INTERFACE

here is my final for the mid-term project.

here is CNN news interface design for a mobile device

IDEA USING MOBILE PHONE

- For products such as toys, foods, etc, companies printed bar-codes on thier products' packages. Then, people will read the code by thier mobile phone to directly go to the resource pages on CNN NEWS-wikipedia. Users can learn more about the products and also can find more further resources about it.

[IDEAS] Creative Brief

NEWS + NEW VALUES = NEW INTERFACE
INTERACTIVITY BETWEEN NEWS AND USERS

Design the interface where users can actively participate and get the information from the everyday news by developing individual news pages where user can choose what news he or she is interested, and also user can communicate with other users, and can make arguments about news. Therefore, the news is not only the facts of events, but the news has more values for users.

1) Communication (= Share)
a. To interactive to news and also other users.
b. To know what other people are interested in
c. To share news and interests

2) Education (=Learn)
a. To access to the secondary information related to the news
b. To learn vocabularies or other things related to the news

3) Entertainment / Relaxation
a. To participate

- EXPERIENCE BOARD

- MOOD BOARDS

- COMPETITORS BOARDS

[Notes] General Ideas and Thougts for New Dynamic News-Interface

Why People need news?

- Education... be aware of cultures and societies we live in right now.
- Communication... sharing values and understanding each other
- etc...

What is News?
- Hard news vs. Soft news

How should news be understood or used?
- Non-Interactive >>> Interactive
- General >>> Personalized/Specific
- Being controlled >>> Control

Examples / Ideas
- Blog
- Custermize / organize news
- Discussion Forum
- Write Article or News

Examples of Tool for getting news/information
- Internet on PC, cellphones
- Newspaper
- Radio
- TV
- etc..

How to access News and How it organized

- worldwide media(CNN) vs. Local Media

[Notes] Analysis of the other existed websites and services.

MySpace:
- community and entertainment based website.
- more personalized information rather than general.
- Network of information by user communication and participation.

MSNBC:
- webblog focusing on more local and personalized news and information, and provided by NBC coresspiondants, producers, and etc...
- people can leave comments and opinions directly to thier articles and news.

Iza!:
- News provided by individual users.
- Bookmark websites
- Dictionary that users can edit like wikipedia.
- Learning/communication based websites.

Choix:
- Discover + keep + share (= close to my idea!)
- Similar idea to CNN's organization tool for news, but more personalized and primary tool.

Mixi:
- Blog + news + community
- unlike CNN, News-centered web, this is communication-centered web where news are used as more for communication, rather than just information.

[Notes] Analysis of the current CNN news website

CNN features in Large Context

- news are chosen for you and forced to see the news provided by CNN. No control at all.

- Showing all kinds of news. No matter whether you are interested or not.

- People have less control to see news in their everyday life, or may not know what kind of news they look for or are interested in.

CNN features in Small/Detailed Context

- Self-organization tool for news are provided to organize the news you are interested by folders and links, and share those news with your friends and others. But, this function seems to be a secondary tool rather than a primary.

- The links to individual blog are provided to make comments or create arguments relative to specific news or information. But, this is just links to their blogs provided by other services or websites.

CNN features in Simple Graphic Diagram

- Primary function is to see or read all kinds of news provided and regulated by CNN. We mainly read news for only correcting information or knowledge.

- Secondary function is to organize news as they wish.
